Leaf of the Maple Environmental Icon $1,500.00 Artist Statement: Embracing our natural heritage I have chosen the Maple leaf as the focal point of this environmental icon. The Maples among others reliably grace us with the foliage so green in the spring, changing to radical red, gold and amber hues in the fall. It is as if this leaf so loaded with pigment is pumping it through its veins like the blood through the heart of a human being. The power of the Maple leaf is manifested by the shield like shape pointed with spears to protect from harm. This image of the leaf is transcendent; floating in space suggesting an immaculate, saintly, poise and nobility with a link to a higher power. This solemn species is part of our inheritance that we can choose to acknowledge or ignore.
